Art + Design: elearning lab - Design for Social Innovation ( www.elearningartdesign.org ) was accepted in the DESIS Network (Design for Social Innovation and Sustainability) as the first workshop of the Network from Cyprus ( www.desisnetwork.org/courses/cyprus -limassol-art-design-elearning-lab / ).

The Network includes a global team of 59 workshops from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania and South America dealing with the broad field of social planning, sustainability and social innovation. It was founded in 2009 by Italian Professor Ezio Manzini, a world-renowned academic designer.

The Art + Design: elearning lab was founded in 2011, initially focusing on technology-assisted learning and design training. Since 2016 and with the addition of researchers from Portugal, England, Greece and Australia, the laboratory has developed an active interest in design for social change.

In recent years, members of the workshop have published extensively in the areas of education in social planning, social entrepreneurship and innovation. Since 2017, the workshop offers a multidisciplinary and interdepartmental undergraduate learning unit at TEPAK, the first of its kind in Cyprus. In it, students from different disciplines (School of Management and Economics and School of Fine and Applied Arts) collaborate and apply design thinking for one semester, addressing social challenges at the local level ( www.designforsocialchange.org/student_projects ). These students acquire several lifelong skills to meet complex challenges.

Last year, the workshop created the first Open Access scientific journal in Cyprus with an international editorial team, entitled DISCERN, International Journal of Design for Social Change, Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship ( www.designforsocialchange.org/journal/index. php / DISCERN-J ). All of these activities are complemented by participation in Erasmus + funded projects with an emphasis on social planning and ongoing partnerships with Hub Nicosia - a social innovation space and incubator for social enterprises ( www.hubnicosia.org).
