All you need to know about Schengen Visa Fees

There is a non-refundable compulsory visa fee when applying for a Schengen visa, which any applicant must pay. The cost of the Schengen visa varies depending on the visa form and the age of the applicant, as well as some other exceptions set out in the text below. The Schengen visa fee may be charged by cash, debit or credit card at the designated consulate or embassy. Some consulates can, however, not permit you to pay by credit card. The costs of applying for a Schengen visa include the visa fees payable at the respective embassy / consulate when applying. It is 80 Euros for an adult. The visa fee in force is in compliance with the existing exchange rate. Without warning, it is subject to alteration.

But lately, a shift in payments has occurred. A higher visa fee will have to be charged by travelers in need of a Schengen Visa from January 2020. The amendments come after the Council of the European Union gave the final nod to a revised Schengen Visa code. To apply, third-country nationals in need of a visa may have to pay 80 Euros. The new law also foresees other changes. The reforms were proposed by the European Commission last year in an effort to make it easier for regular visitors to the Schengen countries to travel. The new rules also allow applications to be submitted for a period not exceeding 6 months and no later than 15 days prior to travel. The maximum time has been 3 months so far. Furthermore, the EU aims to implement a harmonized approach to the issuance of multiple entry visas for regular passengers with a positive background of visas over a period of time that will gradually rise from 1 to 5 years.

Another significant part of the new code is that it also aims to contribute to third-country readmission cooperation by implementing a new framework for leveraging the use of visa processing. Via the process, on an ongoing basis, third countries will be evaluated with respect to readmission cooperation. As for visa processing and visa fees, non-cooperating countries may be subject to stringent visa controls. Cooperating countries can, on the other hand, benefit from reduced visa fees or an increase in the validity period of multiple entry visas.

Notwithstanding the fact that these payments are unchanged and unchangeable unless the Schengen members have agreed otherwise entirely, some groups are excluded from paying this sum. Visa fees can also be waived at workshops, conventions, and sporting, cultural or educational activities held by non-profit organizations for participants aged 25 years or less. Depending on the importance of the incident, the decision will be taken case by case. Again, there is no refund of the money paid in the event that the visa is rejected.
