Austria has a broad and diverse range of higher education institutions, ranging in size and structure, for a country with a population of little under nine million people. There are 22 autonomous public universities (öffentliche Universitäten) for education in austria with a broad focus on humanities, law, and economics that control their own affairs with some financial backing from the state.

There are also 21 Applied Sciences Universities (Fachhochschulen) that offer scientifically-based and vocationally-oriented programs. Graduates from these colleges will be expected to work in their fields of study after graduation. The fundamental purpose of these schools was to provide university-level practice-oriented instruction, transmit the skills needed to solve problems and encourage graduation into subject-related areas. The state actively promotes these universities, and they are constantly looking for additional female students.

There are 13 private institutions (Privatuniversitäten) in Germany that receive no government financing. The Accreditation Council oversees them (Akkreditierungsrat). Students may anticipate creative and high-quality education from these institutions, with a strong emphasis on the arts. Continuous internal and external evaluations of education and research distinguish private universities.

Austria has a strong history of higher education, with cutting-edge research and a rising number of degree programs to choose from, providing numerous options for prospective students. These institutions of higher learning are not only present in the city, of Vienna, but also throughout the country. The Universities of Applied Sciences have colleges in both Lower and Upper Austria, with world-class facilities set in picturesque surroundings. There is also free education in austria for EU students.

Unit-by-unit evaluations are common in Austrian Master's programs, with each unit bearing a certain ECTS credit value, in addition to your dissertation (if necessary). Your overall degree outcome will be calculated using your performance in specific modules as well as your final dissertation.

Written assignments, smaller research activities, placements, practical projects, and tests, if appropriate, are common assessment tasks throughout areas of study and graduate degrees.

Your thesis will be graded as a written document, although an oral 'defense' may be required. Giving a brief explanation about your work and/or responding to questions about your results and analysis will be part of this. Several other European higher education systems employ a similar procedure to evaluate Master's degrees, providing students the opportunity to stand up and accept credit for their work, similar to how a Ph.D.'s viva voce defense closes.

Austria is one of the European countries that treat tuition costs at public universities quite generously. Austria offers free education in austria for Students pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Even better, this generosity extends to many overseas postgraduate students in Austria!
