The Department of Chemistry (www.uib.no/en/kj) has a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow position within development of organometallic catalysts. The position is for a period of 2 years and within the research group of Professor Vidar R. Jensen. The position is part of an interdisciplinary project on the use of lipids from microalgae as feedstock for value-adding chemical processes and is funded by the Research Council of Norway.
About the project/work tasks
New and improved organometallic catalysts for transformation of lipid fatty acids to alpha olefins will be developed. Focus will be on reactions such as decarbonylative dehydration and catalysts based on late transition metals. Development of catalysts will be aided by computational predictions, which are performed by a PhD student working on the project (hired 2014). The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for synthesis and testing of catalysts. Successful homogeneous catalysts will subsequently be heterogenized via bonding to carbon nanomaterials.
