Despite its small size, Belgium has a significant global presence. Belgium, which is home to both the
European Union and NATO, offers international students a one-of-a-kind educational experience in the
heart of Europe, steeped in rich history and vibrant culture. Heres where you can learn more about the
Scholarships to study in Belgium.


While the Belgian government focuses much of its scholarships on international students from
developing countries, international students from other parts of the world still have a number of
alternatives.


Scholarships from the government:
Belgian Development Agency (BTC) Scholarships: The Belgian Development Cooperation awards
scholarships and internships to nationals of Belgium's 18 partner countries to assist masters and
doctoral studies, internships, and travel in a variety of academic fields. Belgium offers 1,000 grants per
year, including 4,000 local grants.


Masters Scholarship and VLIR-UOS Training: Annually, up to 180 scholarships are offered to students
from 54 countries for development-related training and master's programmes in order to prepare them
for leadership roles in their home countries. Tuition, housing, and program-related expenditures are
covered, as well as a monthly allowance.


CIUF-CUD Scholarships: The University Commission for Development (CUD) awards 150 course
scholarships and 70 training programme scholarships to international students from developing
countries that are training or pursuing Master's degrees in Belgium.
Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programmes: This scheme permits overseas students to attend Erasmus
Mundus study programmes for free.


Scholarships awarded by Private Institutions:
International Science@Leuven Scholarships: These one-year, 8,000 € (Euro) scholarships are available to
motivated international students pursuing Master's degrees in astronomy and astrophysics, biology,
molecular and cellular biophysics, chemistry, physics, geography, geology, mathematics, and statistics.

K.U. Leuven's IRO Doctoral Scholarship Program: This scholarship, which supports meritorious Ph.D.
students from impoverished countries, has sponsored more than 100 international Ph.D. students in the
last ten years.


International Student Scholarships at Liege University: These 1-2 year scholarships, which are available
to both EU and non-EU Masters students from emerging or developing countries, include a monthly
stipend, travel costs, and registration fees.


Belgian American Educational Foundation Fellowships: The Belgian American Educational Foundation
(B.A.E.F.) provides up to eight fellowships, each with a stipend of $25,000, to citizens or permanent
residents of the United States for advanced study or research.


Masters Grants for Students from Developing Countries at Ghent University: Master's students from
underdeveloped countries can get up to ten scholarships each year. For up to two years, this prize offers
a monthly allowance, health insurance, and tuition price reimbursement. Learn more about the Law

The University of Ghent Doctoral Special Research Fund: This one-of-a-kind grant provides a 24-month
scholarship to promising PhD candidates from disadvantaged countries, which must be divided into
various periods over the course of four years, beginning and finishing at Ghent University.
Fulbright Scholarship: These scholarships are administered by the Commission for Educational Exchange
between the United States of America, Belgium, and Luxembourg and support graduate study,
predoctoral research, and postdoctoral research, with special programmes for language teaching
assistants (Dutch, French, and German) and secondary school teachers.
