Letter of recommendation (LOR) - minimum two:

This is a significant element of your application. One of these should be educational i.e. from a professor/ teacher who has seen you studying and can advocate for your academic skills that are required to pursue higher studies in the US. While the other i.e. professional letter of recommendation, mentions the skills required in a person aspiring for graduate studies especially after gaining considerable amount of work experience. Here, the university/ institute will assess not just the length of the experience but also the depth of the same.

Certificates of extra-curricular activities:

Involvement in extra-curricular activities reflects a multi-faceted personality. Thus, it gives an idea how much value you can add to the diversity of           the classroom.

Language proficiency tests like IELTS / TOEFL:

The minimum acceptable scores of these tests may vary from institute to institute or university to university. Although the TOEFL has been                       synonymous with the US and is preferred as well, there are still many universities in the US which now also accept the IELTS.

Standardized tests like GRE (Graduate Record Examination) / GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test):

For admission to graduate courses in the US, you will be required to take either the GRE or GMAT. While the GRE score is required for all non-management masters/ graduate courses; the GMAT score is required for pursuing management programmes such as MBA. However, not all universities make it mandatory. It is recommended that you take the relevant exam to further increase the chances of admission especially if you are keen on applying for a scholarship as well.
