An 'internetwork' is a group of networks that work together to form a larger, unified network. An internetwork engineering professional designs these networks. Because of this, their job description and skills must be the same as those required of a computer network architect. A computer network architect designs and installs computer networks, including intranets, extranets and local area and wide area networks.
Computer network architects work at least full-time, with many logging more than 40 hours per week. Such professionals work in office settings, but some may be able to work from home. There is little risk of physical injury or illness associated with this job and physical demands are few.
Internetworking involves a collection of individual networks that are linked via devices and programs to create one large network. Commonly known network configurations include a high-speed data network known as a local area network (LAN) and a data communications network that covers a large area known as a wide area network (WAN). Internetworking technicians design and maintain such systems.
